My first book – Minna Pegeen – came out in 2011 and my second book – Bedina’s War – came out August 2012. (Both are published by Comfort Publishing.) Bedlam Press released Perky's Books & Gifts December 2013. I'm looking forward to Whiskey Creek Press's release of The Island Remains this coming year! I’ve been published in over a dozen magazines and newspapers. I wrote a weekly column for veterans for BellaOnline for three years and now write the ScienceFiction/Fantasy Books column there. Occasionally, I find time to post on my blog. Plus, I facilitate a group for writers: Writers for All Seasons.
Over my thirty-one years as an educator, I have taught elementary, middle, high, and adult schools and in alternative school sites like DJJ and Teen Pregnancy Centers. I’m certified in Early Childhood, Elementary, English for Speakers of Other Languages, Middle School Integrated Curriculum, Gifted, and Journalism. Right now, I am teaching Robotics to the greatest kids in the world - at Jewett School of the Arts.My home – Fern Cottage – is certified as a natural habitat by the National Wildlife Federation (which means it provides food, shelter, water, and breeding areas for wildlife and does not use fertilizers or pesticides) and is a haven to many endangered birds, lizards, and plants. Currently, I am foster mother to over a thousand tadpoles (I can differentiate three separate kinds) and share my home with Daisy – my mostly yellow lab and Moonbeam – my mostly Siamese and their mini-panther Shadow and hunter extraordinaire Sterling and foundling Peek-a-boo (whom Sterling rescued). My avocado tree is loaded this year and I share fresh pineapples with my friends. My tadpole ponds are not quite as busy this year, but I still am serenaded by thousands of the adult frogs each night.
I hope the feel of this page reflects me -- a woman who lives simply, enjoys good friends and great food and loves to tell stories and sing songs.
